Therapy for Lesbian, Gay and Queer People

LGBTQ+ & Queer-Affirming Therapy in California & Arizona

Finding a therapist who understands the LGBTQ+ experience can make a meaningful difference in therapy. As a lesbian therapist, I understand how important it can be to work with someone who gets the nuances of queer identity, relationships, family dynamics, and the process of figuring out who you are on your own terms.

I provide LGBTQ+ and queer-affirming therapy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, and queer clients throughout California and Arizona. I have experience working with many different types of queer people and recognize that there is no single “LGBTQ+ experience.” Your identity, relationships, family, culture, and life experiences are uniquely yours, and therapy should reflect that.

A Space Where You Don't Have to Explain Yourself

Sometimes therapy involves talking about things that can feel difficult to explain to someone who doesn't understand the LGBTQ+ experience. Maybe you're navigating coming out, family relationships, dating, internalized homophobia, gender identity, questions about your future, or simply trying to feel more comfortable being yourself. You don't need to educate me about being queer before we can get to the things you actually want to work on.

My goal is to create a space where you can be honest, ask questions, explore your identity, and talk openly about your life without worrying about judgment or having your identity pathologized. We can talk about the challenges that come with being queer, while also making room for the joy, connection, relationships, community, and freedom that can come with living authentically.

Therapy for the Whole You

Being LGBTQ+ doesn't mean that every issue you experience is related to your identity. You might be coming to therapy because of anxiety, OCD, trauma, relationship concerns, depression, grief, or simply because you're feeling stuck. At the same time, your identity and experiences can understandably influence how those things show up in your life. We can explore both without making assumptions about what your identity means to you.

I work with clients at many different points in their journey. You might feel completely comfortable in your identity, be questioning something, be newly out, or be exploring parts of yourself that you've never felt safe enough to talk about before.

Gender-Affirming Therapy & Letters of Readiness

I also have experience supporting transgender and gender-diverse clients who are pursuing gender-affirming care. This can include exploring gender identity, navigating the emotional aspects of transition, and supporting you through the process of accessing gender-affirming treatment. I provide letters of readiness for gender-affirming surgeries when appropriate. My approach is not about deciding whether someone is “trans enough” or determining what someone's gender should look like. Therapy is a space to understand yourself, make informed decisions, and receive support through what can be a deeply personal process. Whether you're considering surgery, already know what you want, or are somewhere in between, we can talk about your goals and what support would be helpful to you.

You Get to Be Yourself Here

Therapy shouldn't require you to shrink yourself or translate your life into language that feels more comfortable for someone else.As a lesbian therapist, I value creating a space where queer clients can show up as their whole selves. Whether you're looking for support with a specific mental health concern, navigating a major life transition, exploring your identity, or simply wanting a therapist who understands the queer community, I'm here to help.
